Affiliate Disclosure
Last updated: August 28, 2026
Some pages on The Basic Travel Blog contain affiliate links. This page explains exactly what that means, which links are affected, and what it does and does not change about what I write.
The short version: if you buy something through one of those links, I may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it has never decided what goes in a review.
1. Amazon Associates
I am a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
2. Which links are affiliate links
Affiliate links appear mainly in the gear reviews and truck build posts under Outdoors, in the “where to buy” and “what I used” sections. They are always:
- Labelled on the page itself, before you reach the link.
- Marked up as sponsored links so search engines and browsers can identify them.
- Limited to products I have actually bought and used.
Retailers listed purely as a price comparison – MEC, Kal Tire, OK Tire, Canadian Tire and similar – are not affiliate links and earn me nothing. They are there so you can see what a fair price looks like.
3. What it does not change
Nothing on this site is a paid review. No company has paid me to write about a product, been given approval over what I publish, or seen a post before it went live. Where something is expensive, tight for two adults, or not the right tyre for deep mud, that is in the review, because leaving it out would make the review worthless.
Prices quoted are what I paid or what I saw at the time of writing, with the date noted. They move. Always check before you buy.
4. How to avoid affiliate links entirely
If you would rather not use them, just search the product name directly at the retailer. You will get the same product at the same price, and the review is free either way. Nothing on this site is gated behind a link.
5. Questions
If anything here is unclear, or you think a link has been missed or mislabelled, please get in touch and I will fix it. You can also read the Privacy Policy for how analytics and cookies work on this site.
